Review: The swanky Crowne Plaza Changi Airport

by Sonja Faul

The Crowne Plaza Changi Airport is a 5* hotel located, as the name suggests, at Terminal 3 of Changi Airport. It’s a luxurious and elegant hotel, the perfect place to stay for late night arrivals or early morning departures. Downtown Singapore is only a 30 min drive away.

When I arrived

Even at 02h30 in the morning, there were a lot of people checking into the hotel! The staff members at the reception desk were fast and efficient, making the check-in process easy and smooth.

Rooms

I stayed in a business king room on the second floor of the hotel. The room is elegant and spacious at fitted with air conditioning, a desk, and chair, a seating area, safety deposit box, a closet with bathrobes, flat-screen TV, telephone, radio, minibar and tea and coffee making facilities.

The beautiful en-suite bathroom has both a shower and a bathtub. You will find all the complementary toiletries and hairdryer in the bathroom.

I absolutely loved the Orla Kiely toiletries! It did not dry out my skin and hair, and I love the scent infused with orange, caraway and essential oils.

Should you require additional toiletries or services, there is a specific button you push on the telephone and the staff members will immediately assist you and cater to your needs.

Facilities

Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel.

The hotel has an on-site spa and fitness centre, as well as an on-site business centre.

Apart from the in-room dining, the hotel also has no less than four restaurants and bars.

The Crowne Plaza Changi Airport has the best outdoor swimming pool I have ever seen! It’s beautiful, surrounded by lush plants.

Staff members

The staff members of the hotel are very professional and competent, but not necessarily welcoming or friendly. Perhaps the two are mutually exclusive?

Breakfast

The Crowne Plaza Changi Airport has one of the best breakfast buffets I have ever seen! There are two sides to the buffet. One side serves traditionally Western breakfast foods and the other side has more Eastern dishes.

Expect to see everything from fresh fruits and salad to an extensive selection of pastries and hot breakfast dishes!

I have this breakfast ritual where I start with fresh fruit, then I hit the pastries and I end my breakfast with the hot dishes (and something sweet). My favourite part of the breakfast buffet was the truffle scrambled eggs, the pancakes with maple syrup and the steamed buns!

Dining at the hotel

Apart from the excellent breakfast buffet, the hotel also offers a lunch and dinner buffet. So I checked it out!

Lunch Buffet

The lunch buffet did not disappoint! For meat lovers, you can have anything from seafood to fillet. If you are a vegetarian like me, your options are a little bit more limited. I did have some great gnocchi in a cream sauce which was freshly prepared for me. It was delicious!

The redeeming factor for me was the excellent dessert buffet. As I have a giant sweet tooth, I had to try a piece of nearly every dessert!

Dinner Buffet

The dinner buffet is very similar to the lunch buffet. In fact, it’s mostly the same dishes, perhaps two or three extra/different ones. For dinner, I had pasta again with a great salad.

The stellar dessert buffet had a couple of extra sweets (which I was compelled to try of course!). I ended my meal with a waffle topped with frozen yoghurt, caramel sauce, and sweets. Sugar overload!

What I didn’t like:

I loved everything about the hotel! Perhaps just one suggestion: a greater variety of vegetarian dishes at the lunch and dinner buffets…

My favourite part:

The highlight of my stay at the hotel was definitely the buffets, specifically the breakfast buffet, and the dessert table at the lunch and dinner buffets. Yum! It felt like I was in food heaven!

I felt like royalty during my stay. The hotel is truly luxurious, from the hotel rooms to the delicious food!

Will Crowne Plaza Changi Airport see me again?

I certainly hope so! My stay at the hotel was great and comfortable. I would love to stay in this luxury hotel again!
