Review: Maison at C Boutique Hotel & Spa

by Sonja Faul

Here’s a review of my one night stay at the hotel. The Maison at C Boutique Hotel & Spa is a 4* property centrally located in Seminyak on the island of Bali. The beach is only a 12 min walk from the hotel while Kuta is only a 10 min drive away. In other words, great location!

When I arrived

Upon my arrival, I was greeted by friendly staff members in the beautiful lobby of the hotel and presented with a welcome drink (Yum!). Check in was fast and easy and my luggage was taken to my room.

Rooms

I stayed in a superior room on the second floor, just above the hotel restaurant. The room is fitted with a comfy king size bed, a desk and chair, TV, air conditioning and tea and coffee making facilities. The room has no balcony or views to speak of (a shame with all the beautiful views available in Bali).

Two large French doors (Ooh la la) open into an ensuite bathroom with a shower, washbasin and toilet. Free toiletries are included in your stay and can be found in the bathroom.

Facilities

I list a couple of handy features and facilities of the hotel.

Free WiFi is available throughout the hotel (a must to upload all those beautiful Bali photos on Instagram).

The Maison has a spa and wellness centre, including a gym (to be honest, I didn’t use these facilities, so I cannot comment on them).

The hotel offers a free shuttle drop off at selected times to Seminyak Square and Petitenget beach (very handy and free way to get to the centre of Seminyak).

Room service and a concierge service is also available.

The best feature of the hotel is its lovely outdoor swimming pool with a swim-up bar.

Staff members

The staff members of the Maison are extremely friendly and helpful.

Dining at the hotel

After arriving quite late at night, I decided to dine at the hotel restaurant rather than going out for dinner. I felt the prices at the restaurant was a little bit high and the food was OK, but not great. Rather try to eat elsewhere for lunch and dinner.

Breakfast

A daily buffet breakfast is served from 06h30 to 10h30. The buffet is delicious and includes everything you expect from a 4* hotel. The buffet included a salad bar, fresh fruit, a selection of pastries, fresh fruit juices, and hot beverages, and a variety of hot breakfast favourites.

You can also order your eggs how you like them. My favourite part of the breakfast buffet was the eggs benedict and the fresh papaya juice!

What I didn’t like:

I hate to be negative or too critical, but there were a couple of small things that could be improved in the rooms:

  • The static on the TV was so bad that you could hardly see the picture.
  • The rooms are not soundproof. I could hear all the chatter in the restaurant below.
  • The water struggled to drain from the washbasin.
  • The toilet kept running through the night.

What I liked best:

I loved the swimming pool with the swim-up bar.

The staff members are really friendly and they make you feel welcome.

My favourite part of the hotel is the foyer! I loved the wall covered in clocks! It’s beautiful!

Would I stay here again?

Probably not. Although the hotel is beautiful, it’s the little things that add up and hinder my return.  I’m fairly certain there are better and cheaper 4* hotels in the area…
