My January round-up

by Sonja Faul

This is a new addition to my blog. I want to start writing a monthly blog post about my travels, but also about what’s going on in my personal life. The point of this is to have fun and share more of my life with you guys.

Okay, let’s get started. Here are the highlights of my month.

I didn’t travel in January but…

It was the best New Year’s Day ever. Not because I went to a crazy party or got drunk or travelled to a place I’ve never been before. It was none of those things. It was the best day because I finally booked a ticket to visit my family (my sister, brother, and father) in Australia. I’m super excited! I’ve never been to Australia before and I haven’t seen my family in a while. The next step is to submit my visa application.

My friends moved to Amsterdam

I was so excited to learn that my friends from South Africa, Nerina and Renier, was moving to Amsterdam. They arrived in the second week of January. It will make the city a lot less lonely for me. I’ll be completely honest here, it’s been really difficult for me to make new friends. Nerina and I have seen each other every week and it’s been great.

I got tickets to the Anne Frank House

What I want to do this year (an informal New Year’s resolution if you will) is to experience more of Amsterdam. Not just Amsterdam, but other towns and cities in the Netherlands too. I took the first step towards this resolution by booking tickets to the Anne Frank House. Bookings have to be made months in advance. Just to give you an idea: I booked the tickets on the 5th of January for entry on the 2nd of March.

It snowed in Amsterdam!

It was the first snowfall of the winter here in Amsterdam. There was a little snow during December, but that doesn’t count. Proper snowfall in when everything is covered in layers and layers of icy white flakes. Snow is an anomaly in Amsterdam, so I made sure to enjoy every moment.

I went vegan for a month

Yep. I wanted to start the year off on a healthy note and the best way for me to do that was to go vegan for a month. It wasn’t particularly difficult because I’m already a vegetarian. There were some challenges along the way, but I learned so much about food and my eating habits. Read more about my month as a vegan here.

There you have it. My first monthly update. I hope you enjoyed reading it 🙂
