If you’re looking for an affordable place to stay in Hollywood, look no further than the Walk of Fame Hostel. It’s as the name suggests, located right on the Walk of Fame, opposite Grauman’s Chinese Theatre where the Academy Awards are held every year. The hostel is right in the heart of the action. It’s also well connected to the rest of Los Angeles via the Hollywood/Highland Metro stop on the red line.
Checking in
I arrived early in the morning. I was able to check in and pay for my stay, but my room was only available at 14h00. The receptionist invited me to join breakfast and I was also able to freshen up after an overnight bus from San Francisco. My luggage was safely stored away while I explored the city for a couple of hours. When I returned later that afternoon, my room was ready and I was upgraded to an air-conditioned room.
The rooms
I stayed in a 6-bed female dorm room. The room was very spacious and the beds comfortable. There’s an ensuite room with a coatrack and lockers where you can safely store your belongings.
The bathrooms are completely separate and used by all the girls on the floor. There as only four showers and four toilets with a dressing room, so it can get pretty crowded. I showered in the middle of the day to avoid the traffic.
The amazing hostel facilities
What’s great about the Walk of Fame Hostel is that they offer group tours/activities for next to nothing. For example, hiking to the Hollywood sign, visiting the farmers market or going to the Griffith Observatory. The tours and activities depart on specific days of the week. My timing was a bit off, but I would have loved hiking to the Hollywood sign! Check out the calendar of activities on the hostel’s official website.
The washing machines were very useful and cheap, $1.50 for washing a load and $1.25 for drying. You can get detergent at the reception. Be sure to have a couple of quarters handy for the machines.
Free WiFi throughout the hostel and complimentary breakfast.
Water dispensers to fill up your water bottles for free.
The hostel has great common areas including a fuzz ball table and a pool table.
The breakfast
The Hollywood Walk of Fame Hostel offers free breakfast every morning from 07h00 to 09h00. Although the breakfast is fairly simple, it was delicious. You can expect to see fresh cut oranges (depending on the season) and pastries with preserves. Beverages include tea, coffee, and orange juice. My favourite part of the spread was the toasted bagels and cream cheese, an American classic. Yum!
The staff members
The staff members were very friendly and helpful during my stay.
There’s one thing I didn’t like…
I didn’t like the communal bathrooms; I prefer ensuite bathrooms. But that’s just my personal choice.
What I loved about the Walk of Fame Hostel
The breakfast and the location. The location on the Walk of Fame couldn’t be better. And who doesn’t love freshly toasted bagels and cream cheese? The decor in the hostel was also pretty rad.
Will I recommend this hostel to my friends and family?
Without hesitation. This is one of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed at. If you’re looking for accommodation in Hollywood or Los Angeles for that matter, I highly recommend this hostel.
